Maybe it's the warmer weather, maybe it's the temporary escapism but we are really looking forward to New York Armory Week. Several art fairs have upped their performance art programming and some, well, we just can't seem to get any information from... thus is art week. So here it is, our top NY Armory Week 2017 performance art picks. Hope to see you around!

12PM Ana María Montenegro performs Spy in the Wild; Allocution and discussion. Montenegro's performance explores the relationship between politics and mass populists sport events within the context of the ongoing peace process in Colombia. The speech is a collage made using language that politicians and sportsmen use when addressing the public. Presented with CARNE Gallery.

5PM Baseera Khan performs Acoustic Sound Blankets
Nested underneath sound blankets, Abrons Art Center Artist in Resident Baseera Khan and another female performer hum and dance together to compose music while photo documentation and screen printed ephemera display the relationship between her own body and the body of a fellow female performing at another time. This documentation of past performance, and sounds created while performing, locates them in a historical motif, while the choreography creates a new plural history we share.

6PM Phoebe Berglund performs Reconstruction
This is a reconstruction of a dance floor that was built 12 months ago. Choregraphed and performed by Phoebe Berglund, with stormy budwig, Jessica Cook, and Nikima Jagudajev.

BRENDAN FERNANDES performs Clean Labor
presented by More Art at the Wythe Hotel
80 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Brendan is collaborating with cleaning staff at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to design an original, contemporary dance inspired by the movements and routines involved in their work. The resulting performance explores the similarities between the graceful and methodical movements of cleaning and those of dance, establishing a dialogue between the two, physically demanding professions and making us all more aware of how our bodies shape and are shaped by the work we do.
